‘The sky literally rips open, and through it, I see a different landscape.’

It’s around 5 AM, and I just woke up from a dreamless sleep. I look at my phone and realise that it’s Christmas Day today. I went to bed only a few hours ago, so I’m still very sleepy. I run to the bathroom quickly and go back to bed, not knowing yet that I’m in for a Christmas treat soon! I set a quick intention to lucid dream, and fall back asleep right away. Next, I find myself in a regular dream:

I’m wandering around an ancient city and stop next to a big temple (like the ones in Angkor Wat). I want to take a video of it as it’s so gorgeous. I think to myself that it could be a nice shot if I take it from above as if taken with a drone. Except I don’t have a drone, so I decide to fly around it myself and film it. I jump up and start flying. This is the moment when I realise that I’m dreaming. Up in the air, I decide to create a portal, and immediately it appears in front of me. The sky literally rips open, and through it, I see a different landscape. The overgrown temple complex lies beneath me, and through the portal, I can see the ocean. Below the surface of the water, I can see a massive cave system /tunnel formation. So cool! I fly through the portal towards the ocean. But unfortunately, I can’t remember much more after this point. I know that the dream went on for a little while and that I was using stabilising techniques to make it last longer. I was really focusing on my senses and on the visuals. I also remember that I was losing lucidity towards the end. I tried to recall the whole dream before it would end, but that already felt like an impossible task. I remember a dream character reminding me of the start of the dream by telling me that I was in a forest, so that’s probably why that’s the only part I remember clearly.

What happens next, is that I find myself astral projecting! Wow! 2 experiences in 1 night. But the strange thing about it is that I’m not projecting from the same bed I am currently sleeping in, as I’m currently on holiday on the other side of the globe. For some reason, I am projecting from /or to my bed back home. I can immediately tell it’s very dark outside as well, as it’s 6 hours earlier in Europe. I can feel my body turning around in my bed, and I slowly sink through it. I sink even further and now feel the texture of the inside of the floor and ceiling. I also see a really bright light. I only realised after waking that I must have gone through the lamp hanging from the ceiling. I descend even more and land on the floor of the living room. I try to go outside through the wall now. I can feel my physical body pulling me back towards the bed, which is quite strange as my body is on the other side of the world… I just know that I have to get out of the house and get away from it. Instantly I shoot through the wall over my backyard and into the sky. What happens next, I can not remember. I don’t think it went on quite long. I fell back into a regular dream state right after and had at least 2 other dreams before I finally woke up 2 hours later.

Unfortunately, my memory of the experiences is only short. But I’ve heard many people’s first experiences are like this. It takes practice to stay longer in the dream /astral realm and to strengthen shadow memory recall. Stabilising techniques are super important to keep yourself grounded. But I have not yet figured out how to improve my memory recall. I have tried to shout some key points of the dream /projection out loud to myself, but that only works if I’m conscious enough to do so. So first, I will have to stabilise the dream more. And then, I might have to keep it short and end the experience prematurely to remember all details before I lose lucidity.

Lucid dreaming is an amazing thing to do, and so is astral projection. It feels very natural to me, but I can definitely tell that my mind is having some difficulties. It is simply not used to me being conscious during these states. There are some things to work on, but being able to experience them more often is already a good start! Excited to keep on exploring and sharing with you!
